O…M…G

Delmon Young is a Twin. Unbelievable. Bethany is a little mad that we traded Bartlett, and I'm surprised we traded Garza, but Delmon Young! Doesn't this kind of immediately make the Twins and Rays better?

It makes me wonder if we're going to keep Santana now. Our rotation currently projects as Santana, Liriano, Bonser, Baker, and Silva. If we trade Santana, who else would we pop in there? Unfortunately, Brendan Harris might be our shortstop.

Bill:

I think Silva's not coming back. Maybe one of the young kids -- Slowey? Perkins (if he's healthy?)

Chris D.:

It's a good move by Smith but it doesn't really address the pressing needs—3B and DH. You can't tell me that Monroe is the DH option for 2008. And apparently Young isn't slated to play centerfield so they'll still need someone to replace Torii. Cuddyer isn't switching positions so I'm not sure where any of that leaves Kubel—maybe trade fodder?

I'd look to maybe Tony Clark for the DH spot and Darin Erstad for center. Rowand and Andruw will be way too much. Casilla will be fine at 2nd and if Harris doesn't work out at SS we've got Punto! LOL

As far as 3rd who they hell knows? The Twins should NEVER have let Koskie go. He wouldn't have been in Milwaukee to get that concussion and our 3B problems would be solved.

Anyway you slice it it's a .500 club at best. The Twins won't even sniff the postseason until the new ballpark is up.

Ryan:

I'm just going under the assumption that Silva resigns if we keep Santana.

I keep hearing that Young will be CF, and then that Young won't be. Either way, it's an improvement. It puts a better bat than Hunter in the lineup and plugs one of our two OF holes. I didn't think he had played any in center but when I looked it up, it turned out he played 40 games last year (probably while BJ Upton was hurt and/or playing 2B).

I really don't think Tony Clark and Darin Erstad are good options. Andruw will be too much, obviously, but I can really see the Twins at least offering Rowand something like 2 years @ 22, right around what he's going to get. Still, the best option is to trade him to the Dodgers for Andy LaRoche (check out that batting eye) and Matt Kemp (oh, baby!). We still need a SS. But seriously, just the addition of Delmon Young makes the team a contender. I still can't get over it. Minnesota Twin, Delmon Young. Unbelievable.

Koskie has been nothing for two years now. He'll be out of baseball soon.

I think Coco Crisp is going to be your center fielder and Jon Lester or Buchholtz will be in your line up. There's a couple of people in Providence and Portland that the Twins might be interested in too. There's no point in Crisp for the sox now with Ellsbury and we'd really want to keep Santana away from NY.

Ryan:

I keep hearing the Twins won't take Coco in a Santana deal. They want Ellsbury. They're willing to trade for Coco in a seperate deal. That's smart, because Coco's not very good.

I'm starting to think Santana is going to be a Twin this year. I'm not so optimistic about Joe Nathan, though. Neshek has proven himself, and Nathan can get a pretty good return. With Hunter gone, and including Santana's salary this year, the Twins are scheduled to spend 22 million less than they did last year. They could go long term on Santana and Morneau. I think Bill Smith is just trying to see if they can get a ridiculous return at this point, and if he can't, I see no reason they can't scrub together a team with cheap Free Agents.

I'll tell you what, If I'm the GM of the Twins, I sign Ensberg to play 3B, and go after Rowand with big money or Corey Patterson with medium money. There are a ton of FAs that will be available fairly cheap, and there's no reason the team can't compete.

Ellsburys too popular. Boston would revolt if he got traded. Coco doesn't bat, but he rocks in the field, which might be an ok trade of with having picked up young.
