So, how about that Johan Santana?
I watched every pitch he made yesterday; it was amazing. He didn't just strike out 17 batters, he rolled right through them. He was 0-2 all day long, and only threw something like 15 or 20 balls all day. At one point in the third inning, there were 5 pitches that were balls or fouls. It was just unbelievable. My only gripe is that they should have let him try the 9th. He had just struck out the side in the 7th and 8th, and if he could do it one more time (and there was no reason at all to believe he couldn't), he had a good shot at tying the all time major league record for Ks in one game. Even that is a small gripe, what he did was awesome.
My other favorite parts of the game were when Bert Blyleven said that he wishes he had the body of Santana and when Kevin Millwood's knee didn't unbend and he fell over in the middle of a pitch. Dick Bremer laughed at it and said "it's a good thing they're not recording all of our embarrassing moments up here in the booth," to which Bert replied "Oh yeah? Ever heard of YouTube?"
I didn't even watch the Twins half of any inning much because our offense is so pathetic. We won a series and scored three runs. One of the runs was a wild pitch. We're making the '65 Dodgers look like the '61 Yankees.
I saw Wily Mo Peña went to the Nats for almost free. We could have used a power DH who walks decently and strikes out too much. What free players is Terry Ryan waiting for? Parmelee?

I spent my weekend watching the Sox' triple A team get destroyed by the Twins' triple A team. The sox have the worst farm system. The games are freaking hilarious though. Errors make for good baseball.

Yeah that was quite a game for Johan. It's pretty sad that a game where your pitcher throws a 2 hit, 8 inning shutout with 17k's is also that much of a nailbiter.
Terry Ryan knows how to utilize a farm system better than any GM in baseball and there's no doubt about that. I think as the Twins are becoming less of a "small market" team and the payroll inches closer to 100 million it's becoming pretty obvious he's doesn't know how to handle the ballclub.
The Twins have NO offensive prospects in the system but are absolutely stacked with young pitching. As psycho as it sounds I'd totally entertain trade possibilities for Johan in the offseason. If Gil Meche and Carlos freaking Zambrano can get the deals they got think how much Santana is worth. I'd demand 2 major league ready hitters and 3 top prospects (Hunter needs to be resigned).
