As a far-left progressive liberal, bite me, ACLU

ACLU: You're way off on your siding with people who operate motor vehicles recklessly. Sorry, but the right to walk across a street in a marked crosswalk with a green light more than trumps any supposed right people have to drive their automobiles through a crowd of people because they're running late for a soccer practice.

Way to kill civil liberties while siding with the upper class. Sounds awful right-wing to me.

Indeed. They've had those cameras in Vancouver for years. Once a radio station put out a warning about a particular intersection, and I emailed in to say, "Giving a heads-up on a speed trap is fine, but why are you trying to get the bastards who run red lights off the hook?" They said, "Hey, you're right."

It sounds like the ACLU's issue isn't with the existence of the cameras, but that the fine goes automatially to the owner of the car (not necessarily the idiot driver). If other jurisdictions have been able to solve this problem, it shouldn't be too difficult to do here...

ben:

you know, poor people have been known to run red lights too. Still it does remind me of that Onion article where the ACLU defends the KKK's right to burn down the ACLU headquarters.

YES! Controversy! It took 3 posts but i finally got some. kidding. i don't see a problem with the owner getting the ticket. that's how it works with a hit and run situation. the owner of the car also should have the right to know what his idiot friends/kids/employees are doing when they borrow the car

In a car vs pedestrian situation, I will always say the car is the upper class, regardless of how much money they have in the bank.

ben:

well, that's pretty much garunteed under Minnesota's driving laws.
