Another day, another list

I because curious of what good music came out this year from Minnesota, so I went through what I heard. It wasn't a good year for Minnesota. It's telling that only two of this list made my Top 65 List, compared with four just in the top 21 from Washington (California and Illinois also had good showings). But here are 10 Minnesota albums that don't suck (New York albums with a part time Minnesotan drummer count):

This is a very nice list. Perhaps some day I will board a bus that you are driving and we can have a good chat about local music.

Jimmy:

You've got to add Tapes 'N Tapes' album "The Loon"

ryan:

tapes n tapes? meh

LEE:

Did anyone mention that you forgot Tapes 'n Tapes?

Also, off the top of my head, here are some other local bands that released great albums this year (in alphabetical order):

ryan:

yeah, maybe if people want a promising young (yet still barely mediocre) band to be taken seriously the local blogs shouldn't hype them like they're the new strokes. backlash much?

i've only heard about half of that list, but fitzgerald's first album is terrible, and i've read enough of their lyrics on their new album to not bother. cloud cult needs to calm down and focus on finishing a song or two (they could be really really good). askeleton needs to put down the imac and GET HIDDEN CHORD BACK TOGETHER. i just go the new mel gibson and it feels like a homemade demo to a mannequin american.

Lee:

Hahaha! Ok Ok. But really, I think Advice From the Happy Hippopotamus is the most cohesive album Cloud Cult has ever written (not quite as scatter-brained as their others). And the albums put out by Digitata, Hockey Night, and STNNNG truly are wonderful. And I still wholeheartedly disagree with you on Tapes ‘n Tapes. I think any "hype" behind The Loon is completely justified. They’re safe from backlash as long as the British press doesn’t get their hands on them (that, and a major label contract, guaranteed The Strokes’ downfall).

ryan:

stnnng is local? there's been albums this year by about 8 bands who's names are uppercase consonants (including ZZZ and ZZZZ) so it's hard to keep them all straight.

i think a lot of it is that locals like matt marko, fitzgerald, and cowboy curtis have really turned me off local music. plus i haven't made a show in forever and a half. i work too many nights
