There's been a lot of talk about John McCain and, from a conservative perspective anyway, how much of a traitor to the cause he is. Not only is he soft on immigration and big government, he consistently works on bi-partisan projects (which is why I like him). There have been a lot of conservative personalities (Coulter most notably) who have refused to come out and support McCain in his bid for the Oval Office.
So, would it be all that plausible for the Republican Party to split? I guess it really comes down to, what's more important for the GOP? To stay in power by whatever means necessary, or stick to their guns on policy issues? This could theoretically open the door for a right and centre-right party in future. How iiiinteresting.....
Posted by ben on February 6, 2008 8:07 AMAw, c'mon! Throw me a bone here dude. Who ever heard of a "right of right of center" or "left-right" party? I'm trying to destroy a binary here!
...But I concede your point readily.
Posted by: Ben at February 6, 2008 9:44 AMhehe "left-right"
I like "christofascist."
btw. do you watch Flight of the Conchords? For some reason I can't watch it without thinking of you.
Posted by: onetenchelsea at February 6, 2008 1:39 PMThe beauty of our political system is, if you don't like the bums, you throw them out and start over next time. So I doubt if either party will split. It's good for the parties to go from extreme to moderate and back every few years, as they are doing this year. The conservative radio pundits won't change their spots, but they aren't the Republican party. The people are, and they seem to be speaking whether the pundits like it or not.
The DFL is the interesting race because Hillary is a moderate and Obama is the liberal, and the voting has been about 7 million each so far and almost equal delegates.
Time to redefine the parties! The real fight in both parties is who owns the parties, the party machine, which favors Hillary and Romney, or the free-voting public, who seem to favor McCain and Obama. Very interesting year.
BTW, that union you belonged to through your summer job, is sending Vote for Hillary junk mail to us on a regular basis. So much for the value of endorsements, eh? Should I be sending it on to you, or can I just throw it out???
If you don't like the bums, you're stuck with most of them for up to 6 years. That's a long time for a collective will to hold a single grudge.
It's interesting that you view Obama as the liberal compared to Hillary. Their positions on almost every issue (save the war), are only marginally different, and Obama is being upfront about his plans to work with conservatives.
I'm still hoping for Bloomberg.

Ryan, get your head out of the clouds.

Don't we already have a right and center-right party?
