Stupid Americans

So, it turns out that Ted Kennedy is getting slammed by New York's Chapter of the National Organization of Women because he endorsed Obama instead of Clinton. Apparently the organization sees this as a betrayal of women on the part of Kennedy (just like 28 years ago right? *honk!*). This reminds me of a story I skimmed a few weeks ago where Oprah was slammed by her listeners because she supports Obama (both are black and from Chicago) over Hillary (both lack a "Y" chromosome). Let me summarize my thoughts on this:

If you are voting for Hillary because she is a woman....
If you are voting for Barack because he is black....
If you are voting Republican because their candidates are neither black nor women...
YOU SHOULD NOT BE VOTING!

My dear fellow, Lord Crabtree, is it?

You are suggesting that people cast their votes based on sound thinking and principle. Not so...remember the last election when a guy said he got up the morning of the election, turned on the TV and decided he would vote against the first politician featured on a negative ad he saw that day? Now there's a thoughtful voter!

It's so cold here this week that yesterday I saw a politician with his hands in HIS OWN pockets!!

Hi Ben: Sheraton and I discussed this post yesterday while doing dishes, and we both disagree with you heartily. I hate conversations in comment sections, so we'll have to discuss some other time. kpg

Hey KPG: Yeah, I can see why you and Sheraton would have problems with that. It's not exactly the most eloquent or structured argument I've ever made. And I can sympathize with your comments conversations business. I tried that a few times and it ended poorly. I guess we can raise this issue again when I'm in Mpls...but who knows when that will be? Peace.

Ran across your blog and think you are on the mark. To vote for a woman mainly because she is a woman, rather than, "and she's also a woman" shows very superficial judgment in deciding who should be commander-in-chief...likewise regarding race. In this era, and in this country, it should be their capability to lead people toward solutions that are for the greater good. Character should be the foundation, not race or gender.
