A gold-mine on t'Interet.

I normally don't blog on weekdays, especially when I should be working (and today has been a particularly slack-laden effort). But there's just too many news stories to go unrecommended.

Evidence that the West's relationship with Russia is getting more farcical every minute:
- Bickering in the art community
- Zealots
- and inevitably resource monopolies.

The Also-Rans in todays news:
- Remember that scene in Strange Brew when they fed beer to the dog? Well apparently that same technique was used to prove that Guinness is good for you!
- Whales are the animals that came out out of the sea to start breathing air, looked around to see what life on land was like, then went, "Sod that!" and decided they'd take their chances at sea. If their size is anything to go by, I'd say they made a wise choice.
- The best .500 pitcher the Twins have had since Brad Radke retired is now a Seattle Mariner who's getting $12 million a year to throw BP pitches and sinkers to the AL West's best.

On a personal note:
- I got a shout out (under my sign-in name, "Vinya") on the Guardian Unlimited's Football Weekly podcast today! Best podcast out there. Especially if you like puns.
- And I went to the Hyde Park Art Center last night. Nice.

Well, ciao. Twin Citizens, I shall see you on Sunday.

I can't wait to see the Twins play against Silva. Oh, baby!

This Medvedev thing is interesting. Wait Wait on NPR put it best: "After a reasonable time period, say, two or three days, Medvedev will step down, leaving Putin as President for life. When asked, Bill Clinton said it was better than his idea."

I love the way russia is portrayed in the british news. I recently read a couple of books about the great game and you can see a lot of the same sort of scuffles in the media now.

I especially enjoy anything the Economist writes about russia (or for that matter Germany). There just seems to be a huge disconnect from reality, at least in the case of Germany. You read those articles and it goes completely against anything that I ever experienced there, you know?

Actually, I'd say the BBC is fairly accurate. I was amazed at how absolutely paranoid both Russians and the Russian government are of foreign intervention. After all it was the Russian government who shut down the British Council offices in Russia and it is the Russians who are basically crushing any sort of Western NGO operations there and it is the Russians who are turning down Western investment in business. They really don't like the West there and want nothing to do with us, which makes it a pain to work with them because they don't trust us at all. Granted, we aren't really sure whether to trust them or not, but at least we give them the benefit of the doubt.
