Vultures! Vultures, I tell ya!

It's been just over 72 hours since I had my run-in (literally) with The Fuzz. I came home from work today and there were no less than 5 letters on the counter for me from personal injury lawyers. These lawyers, who are interested in "protecting my rights" were distinctly absent when I had my first car accident when I was 17. Thank you, insurance company. Thank you.

Most interesting thing I saw yesterday: While at work, I saw a bus driver looking at canoes. He was Driver54. Wow, that makes Driver2165 seem like such a newbie.

Runner up: I interviewed for an administrative position with the Department of African-American and African Studies. After the interview the chair of the department asked me what I studied. I said that I was going to get my PhD in early Soviet history. The look that he and the chief administrator gave me was quite priceless. A mix of shock, disbelief, and totaly dumbfoundedness. I don't think they were expecting that response. The chair recommended that I dabble in African history, which is all well and good since I have some experience and I do find it interesting, but totally change direction? Fat chance.

I officially started the grad school application process today. And what a way to start! I'm about 1/5 of the way through my application to Yale University.

I'm pretty sure we still have a single-digit number. Driver 8? Maybe.

Is 54 Mortimer? Shortish guy with dark hair who looks like a four-year-old and talks a lot?

When Driver 8 talks does he sound like a not-so-whiny, Christian version of Smashing Pumpkins?

54 is this older guy. White beard, shortish. Pretty hairy. Didn't get a look at his nametag.

That's not Mort. The number sounds real familiar.

I had an injury at work last year and I'm still getting stupid worker's comp lawyers...

I love african history. If you want a couple of good recent books I highly recommend The Fate of Africa by Martin Meridith and Imperial Reckoning by Elkins. Let me know if you read either. I'd love to discuss.
