Well, just when the academic world thought they could get rid of me for a while, I'm reverting back to student life in January. I've been offered a place in Dalhousie University's Intensive Russian Programme conducted through the University of St. Petersburg in Russia. I will enroll in five months of school in Russia's Second City (that is, if you ask a Muscovite) and arguably Russia's most beautiful city (according to just about everyone else). The term runs from late 01/to late May...I don't know why anyone in their right mind would go to Russia in the winter either. I'm very excited about this opportunity. The city is probably the kindest to foreigners of any Russian city (I figure that I long as I don't look too Jewish, I won't get attacked...by fascists anyway) and a good friend of mine lives just across the border in Helsinki. The catch is that I have a lot of work to do in the meantime. I had an interview with the professor who runs the program and part of it was in Russian. So I have to meet some Russians in town and start talking to them...which is a bit wierd, but I'll do it.
So I've been reading The Rough Guide to St. Petersburg over the last few days, which I bought for when I was thinking I'd be in St. Petersburg for a few weeks two summers ago. I've found out where the rockabilly club is...I wonder how you say, "muleskinner" in Russian.
Speaking of which: I wanted the title of this entry to be in Cyrillic. Ryan, how can I get Russian characters?
Posted by ben on June 9, 2006 9:39 PMThat's awesome Ben. That should be really cool. I'm jealous. Sorry for ditching you at the job. Make sure to let me know if you have any questions. I just got a bit overwhelmed with my life, and my dad is going to be having a bone marrow transplant, so there are some things I want to get done before I go back to school. Also I just have extreme faith in your abilities to learn quickly and to do a great job, so I'm sure you will be fine.

you can change your keyboard's character palette and hit random buttons or hit option-apple-t to bring up the character palette window and do it visually
