Dead on my feet.

They say the weekend is for resting. If such is the case, then my weekend, and a long weekend at that, passed me by. I worked both Saturday and Sunday and on Sunday I decided to ride my bike to work for the first time. Now, for those of you unfamiliar with Minnesota geography, my house in Edina is roughly 8 miles from the West Bank area of Minneapolis. The ride takes about 1.25 hours, mostly through the Midtown Greenway, which is a long commuter trail that used to be railroad tracks. The Greenway is nicknamed "the windtunnel" because it is long, straight, and basically cuts a trench through south Minneapolis. So keep that in mind when I tell you that I rode to work in the hottest day of the year so far (98 F/37 C), humid as all get-out, and windy...and it was a hot wind. Riding to work was fine, but riding to the Porch against a southerly wind was a real pain...especially after being on my feet for five hours. So I was pretty zonked by Monday morning when my parents roped me into doing some gardening. Now, I like gardening as much as the next guy, but all I did was aggravate my body further. I woke up this morning and my thighs were just aching. Too much for for them.

In spite of all this, I started the new job today. Any ideas of biking to work were quickly dashed when I tried to stand up at 6.30 this morning. So instead, I busted out the ol' longboard and rode it from the light rail station to the office. Orientation went fine. Looks like the job will combine periods of frantic behavior with mind-numbing boredom...hey, it pays. Some nice spots for lunch too. Just wish I had access to the river. Stopped at The Wienery on Cedar before checking in at Midwest. For my Victoria readers, picture Big Bad John's, except WAY nastier (but in a genuine, not-part-of-a-hotel way), smaller, and a hot dog and breakfast bar instead of a normal bar. I orderd the Luke Burger. For $3.50 I got a burger with a piece of fried ham and egg on it. Stroke-a-riffic. I think that'll be one of those "once a month or less" type of places. Most likely less.

Ok, I worked 13 hours today. I'm tired. See you later.
